II. MENTORING

An integral part of our research program is to provide outstanding higher training opportunities to highly qualified personnel interested in endocrinology. We accept high school, undergraduate (DVM, BSc), graduate (MSc, PhD), post-doctoral (post-PhD/MD), visiting scientists, and technicians.
Objectives: Seven key aspects we emphasize in our training are: critical thinking, technical skills, scientific writing and publication, research independence, teamwork, effective time management and task completion, and presentation/communication skills. Depending on the stage of training you are in, some or all of these objectives will be included in the training plan.
Approach: Our program expects and helps you to learn and complete many critical skills, including: cutting edge research techniques, proper use and care of equipment used in endocrine research, research design and data analysis, animal care and handling, bio/radio/lab safety regulations and certifications, weekly lab meetings and journal clubs to enhance presentation skills, research collaboration, and scientific writing (abstracts/manuscript drafts/grant applications). You will also receive career advice, and support for pursuing higher degrees/a career in research/your chosen field.
Outcomes: Our trainees obtaining career-stage specific progress and excellence in each of these seven aspects is the primary objective of our training program. These learning objectives/outcomes are met by our customized training plan for the program you are enrolled in. Trainee success is an inevitable and natural outcome of our research and training.
